Freestanding

Freestanding office copiers in Melbourne

What is a freestanding copier? A machine that stands on the floor, on a cabinet or a stack of paper drawers. Shared offices choose it for the bigger paper supply, the extra speed and the room to add a finisher.

Desktop or floor standing: which fits?

A desktop machine sits on a bench or cupboard and suits one to five people at modest volumes. A freestanding machine carries two to four paper drawers, so A4, A3 and letterhead can all stay loaded, and it prints faster.

  • Up to five people: a desktop machine, in practice an A4 office printer with copying and scanning, is usually plenty.
  • Teams of five to twenty: freestanding A3 at 25 to 35 pages per minute.
  • More than twenty: a faster freestanding model of the sort known as a commercial photocopier, normally fitted with a finisher and a high capacity tray.

Doorway first, machine second: measure before you choose.

Options worth adding

A finisher staples pages on the way out; some also punch holes or fold booklets. A high capacity tray takes a few thousand sheets, which ends the constant paper refills. Describe what your office produces and the machine is configured around it.

Getting it into the building

Plan for a footprint of roughly 60 by 60 centimetres, a height of about 1.2 metres and a weight well past 80 kilograms. That is why we ask about stairs, lifts, doorways and parking before delivery day.

In the CBD that often means booking a loading dock or goods lift with building management, and planning around clearways and tram stops out front. Inner city terraces can mean narrow stairs; warehouses in the west and north usually mean roller doors and plenty of room. Either way, the machine goes in without fuss. See where we deliver.

Questions

Freestanding copiers: your questions

How much floor space does a freestanding copier take?

Allow about one square metre for the machine plus room to open its front door and drawers. A finisher adds more.

Can a copier go up a flight of stairs?

Usually. Mention the stairs when you enquire and the right equipment and crew will come along.
