How does a copier lease work?

A finance company buys the copier, and you repay it monthly over a fixed term, normally three to five years. The monthly amount is set by the machine, the term length and your business. What happens at the end is set by the lease itself: hand it back, upgrade, or pay a residual and keep it.

Most buyers settle on our rental instead, because its ending is simpler: a newer model, or hand it back. Prefer a lease, or does your accountant? One can be arranged.

Compare a lease and a rental on one machine before you commit.

Leasing an office printer

A printer lease runs exactly like a copier lease. If nobody in the office prints A3, a leased A4 multifunction printer may cover everything. It copies, prints and scans, needs less floor space, and normally costs less per month than a full copier.

Ask for a printer lease and a printer rental priced on the same model, and compare both in writing. Browse the office printer range.

Replacement warranty

Machine fails? It gets replaced. Right to the end of the term.

Put any machine on our service agreement and the replacement warranty comes with it. New or secondhand, and whether you rent, lease, finance or buy outright, the rule is the same: should the machine fail, you get a replacement. The cover runs to the final day of the agreement, not the end of year one.

On a new copier the maker's own warranty is usually 12 months, on the hardware only; consumables sit outside it. Beyond that year, your cover is the service agreement. Your agreement sets out the full terms of the replacement warranty.

What sets a copier lease rate?

Three things: the price of the machine, the length of the term, and approval. Rentals on our list start from $15 a week plus GST on selected machines. Ask for your chosen machine priced on 36, 48 and 60 month terms, next to each other.

Five checks before signing a lease

  • The full amount payable across the term, not only the monthly figure.
  • The service cost, and whether it can climb during the term.
  • Any minimum monthly charge.
  • The end of term options, and the notice required.
  • The price of leaving early.

Questions

Leasing a copier or printer: common questions

Can a refurbished copier be leased?

Yes, on a lease or a rental. The machine's age decides how long the term can run, up to 60 months.

Lease or rental: where is the difference?

Mainly in the ending, and in how the paperwork is drafted. Our rental ends with a newer model or a hand back. A lease can finish with a return, an upgrade or a residual, as its own terms set out.

Can an office printer be leased?

Yes. A4 multifunction printers lease or rent on the same basis as A3 copiers. The printer section above explains.

What goes into a copier lease agreement?
